Photo Essay: Meals on Wheels’ Star Chefs and Vintner’s Gala 2015, part 2

Meals on Wheels' Star Chefs and Vintners Gala 2015

A couple of weeks ago I shared a number of photos form the Meals on Wheels Star Chefs and Vintners Gala that I attend back in April. They raised an astonishing $2.6 million from that event alone, which is just fantastic. My partner AJ and I tried our hardest to run around and take as many photos as possible (and to eat as much as possible but come on, we’re only human. We ate maybe 1/3 of what was offered). What I didn’t have a chance to show you was the three-course meal that came AFTER those appetizers, the behind the scenes tour we took of all the chefs and cooks plating and creating the magic as well as the desserts! I swear, I think I’m stuffed all over again just thinking about it. Even more sweet than the desserts (<– see what I did there?) was that AJ and I got seated next to Martin Yan for dinner! He was as charming and engaging as you would expect him to be like. He even showed us a little teaser video of some of the film he shot for his new project. AJ and I left the gala, like we always do, completely stuffed but so happy that San Franciscans came out to support this amazing charity. Thank you everyone!

Special thanks to Meals on Wheels San Francisco for providing my partner and me with tickets to the event. Even though our tickets were complimentary we were not compensated to photograph or write about this event.

I’m blown away by these photos. You have really captured not just the enormity of the event (and its importance) but also, through the photos from a distance, the scale of it and effort that goes into such an event. Thanks so much for posting about it!!

"Mr. Lin, a graphic designer in San Francisco who writes the food blog Eat the Love, takes risks in nearly every one of the 150 elaborate recipes in his book. He doesn’t just paint the lily; he bejewels and shellacs it, too."
–MELISSA CLARK for the New York Times

“My goodness, this cookbook! It’s filled to the brim with recipes for the most splendidly beautiful cakes, cookies, breads, and tarts I think I’ve ever seen. My eyes kept getting wider and wider as I turned every page—both the flavor combinations and the photos are out of this world. Irvin Lin has most definitely outdone himself. This book is a triumph!”
—REE DRUMMOND, New York Times best-selling author of The Pioneer Woman Cooks

“Irvin Lin gives home-baked treats a twist, ramping them up with a range of contemporary flavors that are sure to surprise and delight. From beer-battered brownies to smoky butterscotch taking a classic cake to the next level, I can’t wait to mix, stir, and bake my way through Marbled, Swirled, and Layered!”
—DAVID LEBOVITZ, author of My Paris Kitchen
