If you’ve visited this blog at all you or follow me on my social media channels like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat, you know that I wrote a cookbook, Marbled, Swirled, and Layered, that was released on November 1st, 2016. I haven’t had a chance to share any recipes from the book on this blog because I’ve been so busy but a number publications and blogs out there have. I’ve been lucky and thrilled that so many folks have supported my book the way that they have. If you haven’t had a chance to come to one of my book signings, you can still get signed copies of the book from either Left Banks Books in St. Louis, or Read It and Eat in Chicago before the holidays! In the meanwhile, here’s what a few places have said about my book.
The New York Times listed my book as one of the best baking cookbooks of 2016. Melissa Clark said “Mr. Lin… takes risks in nearly every one of the 150 elaborate recipes in his book. He doesn’t just paint the lily; he bejewels and shellacs it, too.” She also stated that “Even if you never bake a thing, his book will make you laugh.” The New York Times also shared my recipe for Blondies with Strawberry-Balsamic Swirl.
I’ve long been a fan of Gilmore Girls, and have been anticipating the Netflix reboot of Gilmore Girls. In fact, I mention my obsession of Gilmore Girls in my book in one of the headnotes. So I was absolutely excited to find out that not only was there an Entertainment Weekly issue that featured the Gilmore Girls cast on the cover but I was also mentioned in Entertainment Weekly’s round-up of best dessert cookbooks of 2016.

I was browsing my Facebook feed one day and my friend Joe Yonan, the food editor of the Washington Post shared a photo of their annual holiday cookie page. I looked at it and thought, “Huh. That’s looks a lot like my cookie. WAIT. THAT IS MY COOKIE!” Turns out they featured my Dark Chocolate and Raspberry Chewy Cookie in their paper!
Oprah Magazine featured my peppermint popcorn brownies in their December magazine. My friend Deb Smith of Smith Bites was so excited about the recipe when she saw in the Oprah magazine (which was a variant recipe listed in the book next to my caramel popcorn brownies) that she made a gluten-free version of it for her blog!

Food 52 featured my 8-Layer Orange Scented Smith Island Cake. Design Sponge and The Splendid Table podcast showcased my Chocolate Cinnamon Babka recipe. David Lebovitz made my caramel cream cheese brownies. Simply Recipes made my marbled bundt cake. And celebrity chef Dan Lepard made my malted chocolate cake and made a gorgeous video for it that he posted on his Instagram account.
Huffington Post put my book on their best of cookbooks 2016 list. Eat Live Travel, Write; The Tomato Tart; Tori Avey; and Two Peas & Their Pod all put my book on their list of holiday cookbooks and holiday gifts. Baking Bites reviewed my book and Eat Your Books interviewed me about the book, while the Sunday Supper Movement reviewed my book and featured my Rolled Chocolate Pistachio Cake. The New York cookbook store Kitchen Arts and Letters included my cookbook in their newsletter focusing on baking cookbooks and KCRW’s Good Food chatted with Celia of Omnivore Books who recommended my book. (Omnivore BTW was where I held my book launch party!)

And a number of amazing bloggers made recipes from my book and shared them with their readers. Use Real Butter and A Brown Table both made my Rose Apple Tart with Spiced Brown Butter Crumb while Completely Delicious shared my Malted Chocolate Chip and Reverse Chip cookies. Kale and Caramel made my Earl Grey and Grapefruit Loaf and The Mediterranean Dish featured my cinnamon bun cookies. And Barbara Bakes made my blue ribbon winning Blackberry and Lemon Chess Pie.
Good Food Stories tried a number of my recipes and ended up sharing my Butterscotch Pumpkin Zebra Pie while One Wet Foot showed some Canadian love by reviewing and making a number of my recipes as well. She even offering a giveaway (that is still open until December 22) for Canadians and shared my Carrot and Parsnip Layer Cake!
My book Marbled, Swirled and Layered can be purchased from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books a Million IndieBound as well as your local bookstores. You can even order it online from Target and Walmart!
