How I learned about the SCOTUS ruling, legalizing same-sex marriage for 50 states.

AJ and Irvin. Photo by Irvin Lin of Eat the Love.

Deep in slumber, I dreamed about a boring conference I was attending. Trapped in the middle of the 2nd row of black chairs, the person next to me was spilling his papers all over the place. I impatiently reached for my cell phone for the millionth time, anxiously awaiting the SCOTUS ruling on legalizing same-sex marriage. Then my partner AJ gently woke me up.

The crack in his voice was all I needed to know how the verdict came down. He said to me “They…”

And I started to cry.

“…ruled in our favor. Gay Marriage is legal.”

I held him and couldn’t stop crying. We laid in bed for an hour, just holding each other.

I’ll be back on Monday with a recipe. For now I’m going to celebrate.

We shall all be celebrating for and with you – from now on, it’s “marriage” not “gay marriage”. xoxo

This made me cry. Finally, finally. So very happy for you. I won’t ask (because I know it’s obnoxious), but be prepared now for everyone under the sun to start asking when you guys are getting married. 😀 Oh, my goodness, and if you do then AJ will be your HUSBAND. I loved saying that after I got married. My husband.

All over the world people went rainbow-colored. Even here (Germany) a lot of gay friends were celebrating the day. From a European view the biggest surprise was to see America set an example on same sex marriage (as we consider Murrica to be rather conservative in many respects, hmh). Wether you guys decide to act on it or not, I really believe that equality (of race, color, sex, or spiritual beliefs) in face of the government and the law should be the basis of any state claiming to be a democracy in the year 2015.

"Mr. Lin, a graphic designer in San Francisco who writes the food blog Eat the Love, takes risks in nearly every one of the 150 elaborate recipes in his book. He doesn’t just paint the lily; he bejewels and shellacs it, too."
–MELISSA CLARK for the New York Times

“My goodness, this cookbook! It’s filled to the brim with recipes for the most splendidly beautiful cakes, cookies, breads, and tarts I think I’ve ever seen. My eyes kept getting wider and wider as I turned every page—both the flavor combinations and the photos are out of this world. Irvin Lin has most definitely outdone himself. This book is a triumph!”
—REE DRUMMOND, New York Times best-selling author of The Pioneer Woman Cooks

“Irvin Lin gives home-baked treats a twist, ramping them up with a range of contemporary flavors that are sure to surprise and delight. From beer-battered brownies to smoky butterscotch taking a classic cake to the next level, I can’t wait to mix, stir, and bake my way through Marbled, Swirled, and Layered!”
