How in the world did it happen? May is here, and I’m SO behind on…well on everything! But let’s not talk about me. Let’s talk about you. Like lucky lucky you. Why lucky? Because you, lucky readers, should know that there is an awesome San Francisco Food Blogger Bake Sale coming up this Saturday that I am helping to co-host. Yep. The Second Annual National Blogger Bake Sale benefits Share our Strength, a non-profit dedicated to eradicating childhood hunger here in the United States. This is your annual chance to buy and eat some awesome baked goods from all those food bloggers that you read. Sure sure, you could MAKE one of their recipes that they write about. OR you could just lazily saunter over to the bake sale on Saturday and plunk a few dollars down and walk away with something amazing. No turning on the stove, no slaving away in front of the stand mixer, no painstakingly measuring flour and patiently waiting for that butter to come to room temperature.
Yep. You guys are super lucky. You can be buying some awesome baked goods from bloggers like Anita of Desserts First. I mean, come on. Her stuff is AMAZING. Hello, I went to the Pebble Beach Food & Wine event and ran into her and Lisa of Lisa is Bossy hobnobbing with Sherry Yard (only my biggest PASTRY CHEF idol ever, the woman who wrote Secrets of Baking, which changed utterly changed the way I went about baking) as if they were old pals. Thank goodness those two have a good head on their shoulders and have the feet firmly planted on the ground, as they are co-hosting the bake sale!
Now Annelies of La Vie En Route is also co-hosting the bake sale, but she’s actually going to be out of town this weekend, which is very sad. I can’t remember why she’s out of town, so I’m just going to say it’s to hang out with Anthony Bourdain. No, I jest, she has to be out of town for work. But she’ll be donating goods as well, so look for those.
Of course, not all food bloggers are pals with the star chefs. I mean some of them ARE stars. Like Shauna of Piece of Cake, another co-host of the bake sale. You can find her on TV hosting the Best of the Bay show, writing a cookbook and raising a child. Also she’s drop dead gorgeous. I swear if she wasn’t one of my favorite people ever I’d be all snapping my fingers in a Z formation like some stereotypical gay man dismissing her*. She has more talent and beauty than anyone I know.
But I digress. For those who don’t know, the bake sale is happening this coming Saturday, May 14, 2011. We have TWO locations this time. One location is at 18 Reasons on Guerrero at 18th Street between the hours of 10am to 6pm. 18 Reasons is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping build community through food. The sale will be happening between 10am and 6pm. The other is at the Kiehl’s store on Fillmore at Washington St between the hours of 12noon to 4pm. Shauna will be stationed at the 18 Reasons location, Lisa will be at the Kiehl’s location and Anita and I will probably be floating between the two.
There’s still time to volunteer and donate, feel free to pop over to the bake sale website and check all the other amazing bloggers that will be donating their goods. Last year San Francisco alone raised $1700. If you aren’t here in San Francisco, pop over to What’s Gaby Cooking and find a bake sale location near you or go directly to the San Francisco donation page and donate directly. You can also follow the hastag #fbbakesale on Twitter if you want. If you see me in real life (or virtually on Twitter), be sure to to say hi!
*FYI, going against all homosexual stereotypes, I am physically incapable of finger snapping. Yes it’s true. I cannot snap my fingers. Someone take my gay card away.
Jim T says
I finger snap backwards (using my pinky and ring finger) so I feel your pain in lacking one of those tools of the homosexual stereotype. Hilarious post. I’m looking forward to our bake sale over in Orlando, Florida this weekend as well.

I’m thrilled this is happening again. I participated in Chicago last year and it was such a good way to get together and network with other bloggers over a good shared cause. Happy to be doing it again. Hope the SF bake sales go as well as the Chicago one did!
Bill says
Thanks for making us aware of this, will find a local one to go to.
Shauna from Piece of Cake says
Dearest Irvin,
Please stop making me cry with your kind words. It’s making it impossible to bake. Thank you for your cooperation.
Love, Shauna
P.S. SNAP-SNAP-SNAP.
Rachelino says
Best of luck with this year’s sale!!! I know you guys will blow the goal out of the water.
Rachelino says
Also, I think I told Shauna she was gorgeous the minute I met her (at last year’s bake sale) waiting in line to talk with Rose Levy Beranbaum. I was actually really embarassed I said that thinking I came off like a freak, but I am sure she has heard it many times!
Katie says
Excited to hang out and be all food blogg-y with you guys! It’s been too long! :o)
Katie says
Though I am willing to be disowned now that I added a g to my new made up work of “food blog-y” *sigh*
Sarah says
I have to admit, that photo of Annelies and Tony makes me a little jealous, but if anyone should have a photo with him, it is Annelies (natch). Can’t wait for Saturday! You all are doing such a great thing for SOS.

Oh! I wish I would’ve known about this. I have no idea how I missed it, but please keep me on your short list for future bakesale events.
