Going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is sort of like reliving my freshman college course, History of Art 101. Except it’s not 9am in the morning and I’m not sitting in a dim room with a slide show playing, struggling to stay awake because I was up at 4am the night before doing a graveyard shift at the college radio station (a tiny 10watt station, though we liked to say it was 10,000 milliwatts of power!). As I wandered through the halls of the Met I found myself wishing I had paid more attention in that class, or at least stayed awake more. Perhaps if I had, I would know more about the artwork that I was looking at. Perhaps if I had, I also would have gotten a better grade. But, neither poor grade or lack of knowledge stopped me from enjoying what the museum had to offer.

Fantastic photo, Irvin! This brings back great memories of the many afternoons that I spent at the Met when we lived in NYC. There’s something so calming about spending the afternoon wandering through very old pieces of art.

Is it my imagination or is there a slight fascination with statues of nude men going on here? LOL
Nice photos. I had no idea what a wonderful museum that is. If I ever end up in NYC with some time to explore, I know where I’m headed.

I was so lucky to have moved into that neighborhood for my first apartment in NYC. I could walk to the museum in minutes. It was a real sanctuary for me as I tried to get used to living in the city. At that time there was not even a “suggested donation”. It became a sort of second home to me. Later, my son chose to stay in “the cat place” — the Egyptian section in its old setting — when he was a toddler and I often took him there. I miss it and have tried to go there every time I have revisited Manhattan.

Lovely! It’s been far too long since I’ve been to the Met.
