Announcing the Second Annual San Francisco Food Blogger Bake Sale!

It’s hard to believe that I’ve been blogging for less than a year, but nothing becomes more obvious when I revisit my early blog posts and cringe at some of the stuff I did. Take for instance showing up at the First Annual National Blogger Bake Sale unannounced with cookie bars and an expectation that I could just jump in and help out! Ahhh, the sense of entitlement one has a newbie blogger. But this year, things are different. I’m not going be showing up out of the blue to contribute. In fact, I’m helping organizing it, along with Anita of Desserts First, Annelies of La Vie En Route and Shauna of Piece of Cake. So now I get to be the guy behind the table, sneering at all those who show up unannounced just like I did last year! Announcing the Second Annual San Francisco Food Blogger Bake Sale!

The 2nd Annual San Francisco Food Blogger Bake Sale benefits Share our Strength, a non-profit dedicated to eradicating childhood hunger here in the United States. It’s a pretty awesome event that is being organized nationally by Gaby over at What’s Gaby Cooking. Not only is it a chance for bloggers to help out for a great cause, but it allows the general San Francisco public to meet food bloggers and get a taste of their goods that they might have only been able to drool over on the screen.

First Annual Bake Sale

On top of that, fellow local bloggers can meet other bloggers, which is fantastic in so many ways. The bloggers I met last year at the bake sale have since become great friends of mine and have been invaluable resources for a newbie blogger like myself. It’s a chance to become friends IRL (that’s In Real Life to all you non-social-media-savvy people) as opposed to just twitterpals or facebookbuddies.

The Bake Sale is happening on Saturday, May 14, 2011 and will be hosted the newly opened current well loved 18 Reasons space, on Guerrero at 18th Street. Those who read my blog or are familiar with 18 Reasons might know that I co-lead a DIY Dessert evening at 18 Reasons every second Wednesday of the month. The event is held at the current 18 reasons location on Guerrero and will be changing to a new night, the first Thursdays of the month!

Current 18 Reasons Space

Current 18 Reasons Space

The Food Blogger Bake sale was a blast last year, but we’re hoping to make it even bigger this year. The location is not only ideal for San Francisco’s food obsessed as it’s on the same block as BiRite Market, Tartine, Dolores Park Café, Delfina, Delfina Pizzeria and next door to Bi Rite Creamery – a neighborhood that has recently been dubbed “The Gastro” – but it’s also right near Dolores Park itself, so hopefully we’ll get people wandering from over there as well!

18 Reasons New Space - Coming Soon

18 Reasons New Space - Sadly it won't be open in time for the bake sale.

So head on over to new our fancy pants website and check out all the details, or email us at bakesalesf@gmail.com to learn how to contribute to the bake sale. For those non-bakers/consumers of all things amazing and delicious, mark your calendars so you know to swing by and pick up something delightful. Last year, the turnout was amazing, and the baked goods decadent and fantastic. Like I said, this will be your opportunity to meet some of the San Francisco bloggers in real life and taste some of their baked goods that you only read about on their blogs!

If you aren’t in San Francisco, but still want to contribute or participate in the National Blogger Bake Sale, swing by What’s Gaby Cooking and check out a location near you. If there isn’t a location already set up, feel free to contact her about starting one!

Happy Baking! Hope to see you at the bake sale!

Hi Irvin! Tina sent just me your blog- looks like a blast and a half! I am bringing her some local lady farms lemon poppyseed agave sweetened cupcakes made with eggs from her chickens today! Hopefully we’ll be able to meet you in person someday! I would love to be a part of the bakesale.

This blog alone has inspired me to plan a trip to San Francisco…someday. An entire store dedicated gastronomic books? Gourmet bake sales? Tons of places to meet people serious about food? It sounds like heaven. Hopefully it coincides with an awesome event at 18 reasons.

Yay! You must plan a trip out here! SF is a food lover’s haven. Certainly Omnivore Books is awesome as is 18 Reasons. If you can coordinate a trip in conjunction with the bake sale, that would be even more amazing! But rest assured that there are PLENTY of things to do in SF regarding food with or without our bake sale!

I absolutely love the idea of Food Blogger Bake Sale. I’ll check back for details of where it’s being held in Minneapolis.

Love it! It’s too daunting for me to actually make something with such blogger big names in the ring but I’m definitely going to visit and buy up some delicious treats for a great cause! :)

Don’t be ridiculous! Blogger big names? What are you talking about? Everyone is welcome to make stuff for the bake sale! You don’t even need a blog!

But purchasers and eaters are welcome too! ;)

I wish I was in SF… set up an online store for your bake sale?! :)

Nah, bake sales are so better in real life. I’d love to just start one in Boston. Really great idea, Irvin.

Have a nice weekend,
Maggie

Hi Maggie! It wasn’t my original idea, I’m just helping to organize it here in SF. Gaby over at What’s Gaby Cooking organized it nationally last year and is spearheading it this year as well. She’s awesome.

And I believe Kathy over at Mother May Have is organizing the Boston one! You should totally contribute over there. Boston has an awesome food blogger community.

Hi Yvette. I’m so pleased you stop by!

That’s so awesome that you hosting the Colorado one! And your sister is doing the LA one too! The entire LA blogging community is awesome. I love it down there.

I hope we raise tons of money for the awesome cause as well. I’m not sure what I’m going to make yet but then, I’m not so good with planning that far in advance. Knowing me, I’ll be whipping something at the last minute…
